Ageists, step to the side - who says that an old banana can't be the sweetest thing you've ever put in your mouth? With a luxe combination of bananas, butter, brown sugar and booze, this recipe proves the naysayers wrong. Dead wrong.
Like a pretty pink nipple just waiting to be licked, this perfect Pomegranate Lemon Drop looks sweet but is full of danger. Fresh lemon juice brings the pucker to the party, making this well-balanced cocktail less dessert and more day drinking. Though I find this cocktail to be utter perfection, if you can’t stand any sweetness whatsoever, replace the sugar in that rim job with crushed chilies and salt. Sugar and salt and spice, oh my!
This drink is from a trio of tipples submitted to the Dirty Girls Kitchen podcast in our Sugar Walls Cocktail Contest. The origin of the term “sugar walls” comes from a Sheena Easton song, allegedly crafted from Prince’s nickname for her vag. This Pomegranate Lemon Drop, submitted by our sister in salaciousness, Blanca Juanita, is inspired by Chowhound’s classic lemon drop recipe. Sweet and tart just like her.
3 oz. lemon vodka, preferably Ketel One Citroen
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
splash of pomegranate juice
top with champagne (preferably pink)
sugar rim and rock candy swizzle stick
Rim a chilled cocktail glass lightly with lemon juice and sugar. Shake vodka, lemon juice and pomegranate with ice, then strain into the cocktail glass. Top with champagne. Garnish with lemon wedge and rock candy swizzle stick.
